Kyle Dibenedetto led all drivers this afternoon with a driving triple on the 7 race card, Dibenedetto got on the board quickly, winning the first race with King Jimmy 2:00 – $2.90 for trainer Robert Dill, King Jimmy notched his second win of the year. Taking a hugh drop in class was Swizzle Hanover, who had been in the Open company for 2 weeks and a winner last week for trainer Keith Haase, Kyle scored a wire to wire win this afternoon with the aged mare by Uncle Peter in 1:59.4 who is owned by longtime Keith Haase patron Diane L. Giuliano of Solebury, PA.
Special Achiever, the newest acquisition of the Chris Petrelli barn paced the fastest mile of the day 1:55 in a 3 length win over Miss Quality, Joe Chindano Jr. picked up a catch drive and scored with Rock The Casbah for trainer Mike Kimelman in 1:57.3.
Kyle saved the best for last in the Open for Fillies and Mares, the 8 horse contest was cut to 6 starters after 2 scratches. The well-traveled Caviart Cherei, who has raced at 4 different track in her last 5 starts was making her second start at Monticello after placing 5th last week. This week she and the heavy favorite Beauty Is Blind (Michael Merton) went for the lead, Caviart Cherei was able to get to the front end while Beauty Is Blind was able to tuck in before the quarter in 28.2. First to move at the half saw Beauty Is Blind start her first over trek past the half in 57.2. Caviart Cherei was still setting the tempo 57.2 & 1:26 but the pesky Beauty Is Blind still hung tough but came up a length short in 1:55.2. It was Caviart Cherei’s first trip to the winner’s circle for trainer Nicholas Delvita.
