Tyler Buter wins four
Monticello, N.Y. – Tyler Buter had the hot hand and then some yesterday afternoon at Monticello. He drove four New York Sire Stakes winners on the card for the two-year-old trotting fillies. Ruth Honig and Woolco both won their respective divisions.
In the first heat of NYSS racing, for a purse of $52,500, Tyler Buter went down the road to score in a wire-to-wire in 1:58.3 – $5.50 aboard Ruth Honig. Starting from Post Position 6, the $90,000 daughter of Chapter Seven made the front just past the opening panel, where she was briefly parked out in 28.4. Approaching the half, Midwind Success and the favorite, Bourbon On Ice (John Stark Jr.), took to the outside, passing that marker in 59.2 with Ruth Honig still showing the way. Jordan Stratton, driving Midwind Success, had almost collared Ruth Honig as they passed the ¾ stanza in 1:29.1, but Ruth Honig didn’t give an inch and kept her at bay and went on to win by two lengths in 1:58.3 – $5.50. It was a new lifetime mark and second win of the season for the Lucas Wallin-trainee for owners Shermay Stable of Chester, N.Y. Midwind Success finished second, followed by Seven Bridges Road.
Race 9 was the second heat of NYSS, worth $53,500. Mari (PP5) made her way to the top just past the opening panel in 29.1. Approaching the half (59.1), Tyler Buter pulled past Woolco and retook the lead. Wally Hennessey, driving Destinys Darling, was making a big move down the backside but broke stride as Woolco took them to the ¾ pole in 1:29.2. Jean’s Action (Jordan Stratton) took her best shot at the leader, going into the paddock turn but was rebuffed. The pocket sitting Mari (Jack Killeen) enjoyed a pocket strip to finish second with Defiant Lady taking the show spot. Woolco is a son of Chapter Seven and is owned and trained by Robert Krivelin (Hero Stables) of Goshen, N.Y.
Winners of the Excelsior A series were Dazzlin Dolly (Crazy Wow), who broke her maiden and earned a lifetime record 2:02.3 – $51.50 for trainer Scott Mongeon and was driven to victory by Brian Cross, and for the second time this season, Laurens Hoop made a trip to the winner’s circle after her five-length win in 2:00.2 – $10.20. The offspring of EL Titan was driven by Tyler Buter. She is trained by George Ducharme and is owned by longtime Ducharme patron Raymond Campbell. EEE Z Won (Crazy Wow) won in the lone Excelsior B event in 2:03.2 for trainer Rob Harmon.
Special Achiever lived up to her name, winning her ninth consecutive race for trainer Chris Petrelli. Joe Chindano Jr. won a pair on the card.
New York Sire Stakes returns on Monday, August 15 with the three-year-old trotting fillies.
