2 horses that over the past few years who have given the fans plenty of thrills and cashed tickets, each scored this afternoon for Bruce and Laura Aldrich. In back to back races Hestons Lucky Chip and ER Shane each reached the winners circle with the same tactic on the front end every step of the mile.
Hestons Lucky Chip scored a wire to wire effort holding off Highborn at the wire in 1:55.4 – $5.20, it was the 7 year old geldings 4th win on the year for owner Richard W. Dieck of North Norwich, NY.
ER Shane earned his 7th seasonal win for Team Aldrich, starting from post position 6 and dropping down in class, the 9 year old veteran made short work of the field to draw off and win by 5 lengths in 1:59.1 $3.90, Arch Credit was second followed by Cinnamon Stick.
Also on the card were 2 North American Amateur Driving Association heats, the first division saw Callmethefireman and Adam Adamczyk reel off a wire to wire score in 2:00.2 – $23.40 over By A Hoff Hanover (J. Slendorn) The front end was the place to be this afternoon as in second heat Alan Schwartz use the catch me if you can tactic. He was able to get away with soft fractions with no one pulling the right line and was to use the tepid splits to his advantage by holding off Fair Glider (R. Ciavardini) by a neck in 2:01.3, dismissed by the betting public he paid a healthy $20.20 for the win. The small son of Chapter Seven is trained by Steven Ray of South Berlin, NY who earned his fifth win of the year.
The top 2 spots for leading trainer changes daily, going into the day, Gary Messenger was the leader with 59 wins and Laura Aldrich hot on his heels with 58. During today’s 7 race card, Messenger and Aldrich each had two training wins on the day.
