Adam Moeykens and Sauvignon Bluechip Take Open
December 20, 2023
Adam Moeykens & Mac Sowers each recorded driving doubles this afternoon, Sowers also had a training double on the 9 Race card.
Competing trainers must have been happy when they did not see Daamricansky in to go in this week’s Open Pace, the Open had 4 horses moving up in class.
KJ Hunter started at the back of the pack from post 7, he let everything settle down before making his way for the lead, which he got just past the opening panel of 28.3. The field was single file past the half in a pedestrian 58, Greg Merton driving Purple Poet was the first to move down the backside. CR Dudley (Harp) making his first start with the big boys had trouble keeping the hole closed causing horse’s to move wide with KJ Hunter still on the lead. Turning for home it was a cavalry charge with horse swarming the leader form the inside and outside, the fastest was 9/1 Sauvignon Bluechip in 1:57 – $19.20 for trainer Dave Dziengiel.
It was easy to see why Chantepleure won the 2023 Comeback of the year Award, this afternoon he scored in a wire to wire 3 length victory in 1:57.2 for TEAM Devaux. The 12-year-old American Ideal gelding missed most of last season, he has gotten back on track and to the races from the hard work of Ken & Dawn Devuax to win 3 races on the year.
Alamite (Taggart Jr.) broke his maiden in 2:03.1 for trainer Doug Berkeley, the 9-race card garnered a respectable $552,560 in handle or a $61.333 per race average.
