May 9, 2024
On Wednesday afternoon May 8, the card was a trot laden program with 5 of the 7 carded for the diagonal gaited, on tap today were 2 divisions of the NAADA Series, each split raced for a purse of $7,500 and 2 open trot dashes. The afternoon also saw the Race of the Year with Emma Town Bud wining his division of the Open Trot after being parked the entire mile.
The first event saw Scott Keppler cut the mile aboard Cellular, turning for home he started to lose steam, the favorite Mufasa AS was fourth turning home and used the passing lane to hold off Swan Hilluva Time in 2:00.4 – $3.90. The winner was driven by Joe Faraldo and trained by Mark Ford; it was the second seasonal win for the gelded son for Lionhunter.
The second heat saw Flashy Swan (Lee Morris) on top at every station, all the while the heavy favorite Bully Boy was lurking in the 2 hole, bidding his time until they turned for home. When they did, Adam Adamczyk unleashed Bully Boy and he trotted past his competition well in hand and scored in 1:59.1 – 2.20 for his third win of the year for Trainer Gary Messenger. Flashy Swan finished second followed by By A Hoff Hanover (McKenzie Sowers)
The first heat of the Open Trot turned out to be a 5-horse affair with the scratch of Charlie Boy, Rosie’s War Bond cut the mile and led at every station enroute to a win in a blanket finish, turning back Raceace (A. Schwartz) and ER Shane (B. Aldrich Jr.) getting up for the show spot. The winner was driven by Kyle Dibenedetto and is trained by his wife Robin for owner Howard Jacobs of West Orange, NJ.
The second heat of the Open Trot turned out to be the most impressive equine performances of the year. Starting from the rail Home’N Dry was the first to the front end with Consus Victory and Emma Town Bud (P. Bovay) also vying for the lead, Consus Victory almost found a two-hole tuck going to the opening panel, but the opening was not large enough and he was forced to carry on first over with Emma Town Bud right behind him at this tripped the opening beam in a brisk 28.1. Home’N Dry was still the leader at the half in 58.3, heading towards the 5/8 mile marker Consus Victory began to tire which forced Emma Town Bud to tip out 3 deep, in the paddock turn Emma Town Bud hit the afterburner and still had plenty in the tank despite being parked the entire mile to win handily In 1:58.2 – $3.590 over Itsoneofthose (A. Schwartz) ER Shane (B. Aldrich Jr.)
Emma Town Bud has put together an impressive 2024 resume for Trainer – Driver Pierre Bovy with 6 wins in 9 starts and has bankrolled over $23,000, the offspring of Big Stick Linda is owned by Nicole Bovay Gurtner of Applehill, Ontario,
