The first heat of the Open Trot saw Westlynn Crown hustled away from the gate from post 6 to grab the lead from the 3/5 favorite Consus Victory, but not for long as Greg Merton had his hands full and came right back to retake the lead before the opening stanza. Approaching the half Skrill (J. Taggart Jr) started his first over trip as Consus Victory continued to set the tempo through moderate clips of 30, 100.2 and 1:29.4. Near the draw gate Devuax popped the earplugs aboard Weslynn Crown, turning for home he ducked down in the passing lane with a full head of steam and collared the leader at the finish in 1:58.4, Marvin B Swift was third.
The second heat saw an abbreviated field of 5 due to the scratch of Manofmanymuscles, Itsoneofthose (A. Schwartz) from the rail was the first the front end, Matchmeif You Can made a break after being parked going for the lead and trying to back into a hole, leaving Promise For Life in the 2 hole going to the opening quarter Itsoneofthose tripped the opening panel beam in a swift 28.2 with Rosies War Bonds (Dibenedetto) in the third spot with a large gap back to Chip Chip Conway who has been off his game for a few weeks. At that point, out came the ear plugs on Promise For Life, Devaux opted to bypass the passing lane and took dead aim on the leader on the outside and uncorked a 28.4 last panel to seal the deal in a new track record for Aged Trotting Geldings in 1:56.1, eclipsing the 17 year old track record formally held by Armbro Barrister in 2007. For Promise For Life it was his first start at the Mighty M for trainer Robert Lounsbury, the son of Royalty For Life is owned by Margaret Olmstead of Monticello, NY.
