SISTER MARY MAUDE MAKES SHORT WORK OF SHORT FIELD IN NY SIRE STAKE EVENT AT MONTICELLO RACEWAY
July 16, 2024
Monticello, NY (July 16, 2024) – While many of the upper echelon New York Sired fillies were absent due to competing in the Delvin Miller Memorial over the weekend at the Meadowlands, Sister Mary Maude made short work of a short field this afternoon in a New York Sire Stake event for 3-year-old Trotting Fillies at Monticello Raceway, the four-horse contest was worth $111,400.
Sister Mary Maude, the heavy 1/9 favorite ambled from the gate by driver Joe Bongiorno in no great hurry, she eventually made the top past the opening panel of 28.2 over Sadbirdstillsing (J. Bartlett). From that point she controlled the tempo through moderate splits of 58.4, 1:28.2, she was well in command throwing down a last quarter of 28.1 to seal the deal by two lengths in 1:56.3 – $2.20 over the pocket sitting Sadbirdstillsing and Hippie Shack (T. Buter). The Crazy Wow – Perfect Mass filly is trained by Ron Burke, it was her second consecutive NYSS win. Second win of the year, the win pushed her season earnings to over $171,500.
Also contested were three divisions of the $20,000 Excelsior Stakes, the first heat saw Nymeria and Tyler Buter starting from post four take the lead just past the brisk first quarter in 28.2 and was left alone uncontested the remainder of the mile, the favorite Communion Money was never a factor and Nymeria cruised home a three length winner in 1:56.4 – $8.10 for the Travis Alexander trained Chapter Seven – Zette Minx for her second Excelsior win of the year.
Dozen put forth the most impressive mile of the afternoon, after sitting fourth during the early part of the mile while the 4/5 co favorite Central Park (Tyler Miler) cut the mile with splits of 30, 1:01. At the 5/8 pole Tyle Buter tipped the filly to the outside after Central Park suddenly had two lengths separation over Lady Eight in the two hole. Dozen began to make up a lot of ground very quickly, by the top of the stretch she was three lengths from the leader. The Nancy Takter trainee was conditioned enough to blow right past Central Park for the win in 1:59.1 – $3.80. For Dozen {Chapter Seven – Sequin} It was her first seasonal parimutuel start and win for owner Diamond Creek Racing LLC of Wellsville, Pennsylvania.
Erin {EL Titan – Blurred} and Dan Daley took the final Excelsior dash with a wire-to-wire effort in 1:58 – $15.20, it was her second consecutive Excelsior win, third win of the year for owners Ann Marie Daley, Donald Brenner and Jared Daley.
Chapter Seven lead the day with two winners and Crazy Wow and EL Titan each scoring one winner. Tyler Buter has two winning drives on the Sire Stakes card.
