Ackles Wins the Open Trot

This week’s Open Trot saw 8 contestant’s line up behind the gate, prior to the start Itsoneofthose made a break and took himself out of contention, Marvin B Swift also duplicated the miscue. Ackles Hanover enjoyed the pocket journey while KJ Kyra (J. Taggart) did the heavy lifting and cut the mile via moderate splits of 28.4, 59 & 1:28.2. Ackles Hanover was full of trot throughout, turning for home Devaux unleased the 5-year-old gelding and he was able to secure the victory by a scant head over KJ Kyra with Rosie’s War Bonds (Dibenedetto) getting up for the show spot.  Ackles Hanover is trained by Art Green, the son of Cantab Hall notched his sixth win on the year and was driven by Jim Devaux.

The iron horse, Chip Chip Conway (J. Taggart) regained his winning ways and scored a win in a N/W event in 2:00.1- $7.60. It was 1 of 2 wins on the day for tandem of Jim Taggart & Gary Messenger, Bruce Aldrich Jr. had a pair of wins, good enough to tie him for third place in the drivers standing with Greg Merton with 101 trips to the winner’s circle. Midway through the card Bruce Aldrich took himself off the rest of his drives dure to a sore back.

Leading Trainer Laura Aldrich padded 3 wins to her ever-growing margin over second place trainer Danny Gill as she stands atop of the heap with 66 yearly wins. Leading Driver Michael Merton drove 3 winners on the card.
