Abby Rose Turns back Perfect Queen

The afternoon’s featured race was the $8,800 for Fillys and Mares, it was an 8-horse event with the 2 favorites drawing posts 7 (Abby Rose) & 8 (Perfect Queen) Dandy Idea and Bruce Aldrich Jr. were first to the front and took the pack thru splits of 28, & 57.2. Approaching the half the 2 favorites came first over and took aim at the leader. Down the backside Dandy Idea was feeling the heat and began to fade in 1:26 as Abby Rose and Perfect Queen took advantage and quickly passed Dandy Idea, the pair quickly had separation over the others with Abbey Road showing the way, Abbey Rose and Michael Merton were still the leader turning for home with Perfect Queen on the outside but she was unable to make up the ground and was turned back by a length in 1:55.2 – $4.70. For Abby Rose, it was her sixth seasonal win for trainer Randy Taft.

Jim Taggart Jr had a driving double on the card with Brendas Delight in 1:58.3 – $7.10 and aboard Als Spirits in 2:02.1 – $3.40 for trainer Danny Gill, the heat didn’t deter Icarus Falls N from notching her third consecutive win with Fern Paquet Jr in the sulky for trainer Monica Ericksen in 1:56.2 – $6.60.
