Open Pace Events

With the advent of racetracks closing for the season, the entry box is starting to see some new faces in the way of new horses and trainers, this afternoon, both of the winners of the Open Pace events were a result of the new stock.
The out of town invader, Feelin Western (M. Merton) took the first Open in a wire to wire win in 1:57.2 – $2.70 over Sectionlineronnie (J. Devaux). The Pocono based Feelin Western is trained by Lisa Martin for owner Joseph Rotella of Liverpool, NY. The other Open event was won by Colossal Stride A, he raced last week in the Open company and finished third for trainer Yogi Sheridan, he follows the money, his lines show racing at 6 different tracks in his last 8 starts. This afternoon he started from post 7 with Mike Merton at the helm. Ginger Tree Finny (J. Devaux) cut the mile until the ¾ marker, as he was running out of steam, Colossal Stride A had a full head of steam and powered home a winner over Just Plain Loco (T. Merton) in 1:56.3 – $ 3.60
On tap this afternoon were 2 splits of the Open Pace and 3 Divisions of the EWEY Amateur Series. Andrew Adamczyk took the first EWEY event handily with the favorite Beebeetee, a 3 length winner in 1:56.2 – $2.60. The second heat saw McKenzie Sowers and Premier Joy A came from off the pace to trip the bean in 1:58.3 – $11.60, McKensie is also the owner and trainer of her mount. Adamczyk would return and take the final dash aboard Caviart Rockland in 1:57.1 – $4.60, Scott Keepler did the heavy lifting and cut the mile with Baron Chancey. The 34 year old Adamczyk is sporting a UDRS of 436 prior to going into today
Creaky (T. Merton) shed his title as a maiden by virtue of his score in 2:01.1 – $4.50 the 3 year old son of Betting Line is trained by Richard Campolong. Mike and Thomas Merton each recorded driving doubles on the 9 race card.
