Greg Merton put on a driving clinic this afternoon by winning 5 of the cards 10 races, he started the day by winning the first 3 races. The ageless wonder, Provocativeprincen notched his 15th win of the year for Trainer Anthony Regina, it was 1 of Greg’s 5 winners.
In the afternoons featured race the Open Pace, the favorite JM’S Delight broke a hopple at the start of the race and was never a factor. Dan Rawlings had Air Guitar in high gear leaving the gate and quickly made the top on the off track 29.1, 59.2. Not much movement in the early stage of the races, approaching the 5/8 marker Rock On Lou (T. Merton) was on the move as Air Guitar still showing the way a 1:28.2. Turning for home Air Guitar had 2 on the field, in spite of Tom Merton’s animated driving he couldn’t close the distance as Air Guitar had a 1 length advantage at the wire in 1:57.1 – $15.00 Yankee On The Move (K. Benedetto) slid up the rail to get up for second and Rock On Lou held on for third
As the year goes on, the race for leading trainer and driver is beginning to tighten up, second place trainer Monica Eriksen had a pair of winners today to close the gap between Laura Aldrich, who 1 winner today, less than 5 wins separate THE 2. Second place leading driver Greg Merton won 5 today to close the gap from his brother Michael.
Dream Bay Shark broke his maiden for Trainer – Driver Dustin Miller in 2:03.1 – $8.60, Best Bettor (T. Merton) won his first race of the year in 2:00.1 for trainer Anthony Regina.
