The cards feature race today was the Open Pace, Hurrikane Jonnyboy was looking to extend his 4 race win streak from post position 8 with strong backing from the betting public. Unlike his recent past performances he did not cut the mile this week and tucked in fourth as Alta Classic A (R. Cushing) cut the mile with Beebeetee right behind him with splits of 28.1, 58.1 & 1:27.3, in the lane Thomas Merton went in the passing lane with Beebeetee to get up for the win in 1:57.4 $21.00 for trainer Danny Gill. Alta Classic a held on for second, followed by Air Guitar
Always Ava come roaring down the stretch at 55 -1 to get the win in 2:01.1 – $118.50 with William Carter in the sulky for winning trainer Chris McCracken. The fourth race was marred when it appeared that Its Rob Not Bob (D. Rawlings) choked down in the clubhouse turn for the second time around, thankfully all of the horses and drivers escaped unscathed. Thomas Merton was a good man in a bad situation, he masterfully handled the loose horse by grabbing the loose line and kept control of both horses!
Mulligan Philly (Greg Merton) regained her winning ways, after being unbeatable in November and December where she reeled of 6 consecutive wins, she got back on track today with a 2:00.2 – $ 2.50 score for trainer Marianna Monaco.
Jimmy Devaux led all drivers with a triple while Mike and Thomas Merton each had driving doubles on the 10 race card. The entire Merton family scored winners this afternoon, Veronica Merton scored a training win with Gardys Legacy A (J. Devaux) in the finale in 1:59.3-$10.80 for owners My Buddy Stable.
