The afternoons Feature on January 28 was the $7,100 Open Pace for Aged Horses, the 7 horse field was snubbed down to 6 with the scratch of Frontier Rollo (PP7). Beebeetee (T. Merton) was the first to the lead, albeit briefly, as Jim Taggart pulled Saranac Bluechip out of the 2 hole to grab the lead before the opening panel in 29.2. Once on top he never relinquished the lead and set the tempo with splits of 1:00.1-1:28. Saranac Bluechip had 2 lengths on the pack turning for home, Hurrickane Jonnyboy was dead last, and through the lane he was able to find a gap along the inside to pick off a few contenders to get up for second for Bruce Aldrich Jr. Sauvignon Bluechip got up for third (Taggart)

JM’S Delight is on the comeback trail for owner, trainer, driver, Greg Merton, the 9 year old gelding only raced 5 times last year with limited success. This afternoon he easily dispatched a field of 8 for his first win in 2 years in 2:02.3 – $4.70. Trevors Ace (Jim Devaux) scored at 21-1 $45.40 in 1:58.4 for trainer Murray Bassen.

Jimmy Devaux and Greg Merton each had driving triple and Jim Taggart had back to back winners on the 10 race card, Fern Paquet Jr. was not available to drive today.
