This afternoons 9 race card was highlighted by 2 – $6,700 Open Trots, the beginning of the card was halted due to a severe snow squall that disrupted races for about 10 minutes. The strong winds were a factor today, they were aided by the wind down the back stretch with the opposite brutal effect in the stretch turning for home, and the fastest last quarter of the day was 29.3.
The first Trot event saw Greg Decker and Jumpshot park Global Cyclone past the opening panel, Jumpshot cut the entire mile and looked like a winner in deep stretch but Reel Em In did just that, he dove in the passing lane and got up for the win the in the final strides in 2:04.3 – $9.70 for Mike Merton, the son of Crazed is trained by Robert Dill to earn his second seasonal win.
In the second Open Trot event, #8 Promise For Life opened up at double digits getting no respect from the betting public but as the clock neared zero he started to receive some respect. Promise For Life was looking to extend his win streak to 3. Bruce Aldrich hustled him away from the gate to take the lead form Ackles Hanover past the opening quarter in 29.4. and lead every step of the way Prior to that point 3 trotters made breaks. Promise For Life high stepped his way to ½ length win over Ackles Hanover with Woodside Genius (J. Taggart Jr.) finishing third. Promise For Life is trained by robert Lounsbury.
The afternoon saw Jim Taggart Jr, win 2, Bruce Aldrich Jr had a triple and trainer Laura Aldrich had a training double. Trainer Chris Lefebvre notched a training double with Miki De Vie 2:02.3- $3.40 & Buerger 2:02.4 – $11.40.
Mike Merton continues his winning ways and momentum in the New Year, he is leading all drivers with 22 winning drives, Dan Rawlings is in second place with 17 wins. Jimmy Devaux rounds out the top 3 with 16 trips to the winners circle.
The ladies control the top 3 slots for leading Trainer Tammy Sowers leads the way with 11 wins,
