The featured race was the $9,000 Open Pace with a full pack of 8 behind the gate, the betting public made #8 Vel Trust In Time the top choice. Buy In with William Carter finally drew a decent post #5, he cut the mile the entire mile until the top of the lane. Rusty Beach (8-1) got underway first over at the half and continued to track the leaders and was able to withstand a cavalry charge with 4 horses at the wire in a tight finish to prevail by a head over the favorite Vel Trust In Time in 1:55.3 – $17.70, Better Be Gouda (R. Cushing) finished third. For Rusty Beach is was his sixth win on the year with regular driver Tom Merton in the bike for trainer Richard Dunn.
30 was the lucky number for Home Run Hanover, it took that many starts for the former $150,000 yearling by Papi Rob Hanover to notch his first career pari mutual win in 2:00.2 – $11.34, he was driven to the win by Adam Moeykens.
Bruce Aldrich Jr. led all drivers with a triple and Mike Merton had a double, Tammy Sowers took end halves of the early double with Vel Letsroll South (B. Aldrich Jr.) in 1:54.4-$17.66 & Yepyepyep (M. Merton) in 1:57.2 – $3.86.
