This afternoon a 16-1 longshot pulled an upset on the $9,000 Open Pace, Better Be Gouda winner of last week’s Open went off the favorite.  Better Be Gouda wrestled the lead from Betthebeach Yankee past the brisk opening panel of 27.2 and set the pace from there. Approaching the half Sauvignon Bluechip got under way second over behind That Dog Will Hunt. Down the backside Sauvignon Bluechip was 3 wide by the draw gate and was in the lead by 2 lengths and scored by that margin in 1:54 – $34.30, his best winning time in 2 years. He was driven to the win by Kyle Dibenedetto for trainer Dave Dziengiel.

Sweet Tammy is a maiden no more, the expensive son of Captaintreacherous won from the rail in 1:59.2-$3.42 for Team Moeykens. Dropping down in class from the Open ranks was Feeling Western (Mike Merton) who held off a game Forza to get the win in 1:55.4 for trainer Lisa Martin.

Mike Merton scored a driving double.
