Vels Straight Out is the reigning queen after her second consecutive score on the Open ranks for Fillies and Mares. Perfect Queen (T. Merton) was the first to the top and dictated the tempo with a strong opening half, 28, and 56.2. Past the half at the back of the pack Abby Rose (B. Aldrich Jr.) started the outer flow. Positions on the front end saw no movement until the pack hit the ¾ station in a brisk 1:24.4 with Perfect Queen still showing the way. Sitting in the 3 hole was Vels Straight Out and out she came with a brush to overtake the leaders. Down the lane Vels Straight Out was able to outkick Perfect Queen to get up for the win in 1:55.3- $4.50, the winner was driven by Dan Rawlings, it now 2 straight in this class for trainer Tammy Sowers. In addition to the win aboard Vels Straight Out, Dan Rawlings also scored aboard Watchwhatmyfeetdo in 1:59.3 – $3.40, in a relatively short amount of time Dan Rawlings has climbed to 11th in the leading drivers with 30 wins.
Mystical Gal notched her 16th seasonal win for trainer Art Green, she was driven by regular pilot Greg Merton in a 2-length score in 1:59.2 – $4.00. Mulligan Philly (G. Merton) 1:57.3 -$2.10 made it 3 straight for trainer Marianna Monaco. Also getting into the act Brendas Delight (J. Taggart Jr.) got her third win in a row, the 4 YO American Ideal amre notched her 12th seasonal win for trainer Raheim Strong.
Jim Taggart won both halves of the early Daily Double and the afternoon’s finale, second place leading driver Greg Merton nabbed a triple on the day.
